The Lagos State Government says the Badagry-bound carriageway on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway will be closed for five hours on Sunday. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, said this in a statement on Wednesday. Opeifa said the closure was necessary as part of efforts to deliver the first phase of the Blue Line Rail Project.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the operations of Dana Air...again. The suspension was announced on Sunday night October 6th by the Coordinating General Manager for the aviation parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati. The NCAA said it shut Dana’s operations to enable it conduct an operational audit of the carrier and its planes. This suspension makes it the third time the NCAA would ground Dana Air over safety and other related issues since the crash of Dana flight 992 that killed over 150 passengers in June 2012.

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities has been in the news a lot, courtesy of a strike action that has now entered its third month and shows no signs of ending any time soon. There have been lots of heated arguments and debates, displays of emotion, and name-calling. Perhaps, it is really a complicated matter, as some would like us to believe; perhaps not. I’ll leave that to the “experts”. What I want to do in the first part of this article is share my general thoughts about the matter.

 The age-long aphorism, which states that “You are what you eat,” seems to hold true in all areas of life. Nutritionists would have us believe, for instance, that you cannot eat like a horse and be as thin as a snake. It’s a case of garbage in, garbage out. If you eat foods that are lacking in fibre, you will soon discover the consequences as you groan in pain to pass stool, in addition to other health implications of bad dietary habits.

The ill fated plane belonging to Associated Airlines was chattered to carry the remains of the late former governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Agagu . The plane is said to have crash landed shortly after take off from the domestic wing of Muritala Muhammed International Airport . The casket bearing Agagu's corpse was recovered almost intact at the scene of the crash. A little over a month since ace Nigerian producer, OJB Jezreel, travelled to India for a kidney transplant, the operation has yet to be carried out. Sources have attributed the delay to the fact that the music producer is still undergoing pre-transplant treatment. They add that the doctors at Columbia Asia Hospital, where he is currently on admission are making sure everything concerning the operation goes according to plan. OJB and his wife, Mama J, left for India on Friday, August 23, 2013 after raising N26m from the public.

Fernando Torres will not face retrospective disciplinary action for scratching the face of Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen. The Chelsea striker was captured on television scratching the face of Spurs’ Belgian defender, leaving visible marks, leading the Football Association to review the incident. Anze, the brutalized okada rider Tension pervaded Market Street in the Somolu area of Lagos State on Tuesday after a yet-to-be-identified policeman brutalised a 35-year-old okada (motorcycle) rider, Jamiu Anze. Eyewitnesses said the father of two was squeezed in the neck, hit with a gun and beaten to a pulp for refusing to release his okada to the police. He was heard telling the policemen that he had parted with a huge sum to get it released three days earlier.

The police in Lagos State have arrested a 22-year-old man, Musa Ojo, for armed robbery. NaijaDstv.blogspot.com learnt that the suspect was among the prison inmates recently pardoned by the state government in pursuant to the provisions of Section 1(1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Special Provision Act, CAP C40, 2007, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

About eight people are feared dead as a commercial boat capsized in the Apapa area of Lagos on Monday. The boat which was conveying about 19 passengers from Sagbokoji Village; majority of who are traders, was heading towards Lagoon area of Lagos, developed a fault midway into the journey.
